The punch-effect that perturbates the stress and strain fields in case of marble specimens subjected to three point bending is studied in the present work. The study is carried out both experimentally and numerically. It is indicated that ignoring the punch-effect leads to fallacious conclusions concerning the load carrying capacity of such materials.
