Vision, roles and steps for governments in transition to the digital age

Stamoulis, DS Georgiadis, P

Electronic commerce is the most visible manifestation yet of the emerging net economy and the strongest argument about the globalization of the markets. It is, therefore, obvious why the role of the government in the digital age is directly, linked to the necessary policies and legislation needed to boost e-commerce. This paper claims that an e-government is much more than a law-maker to enable e-commerce. Without using political a,ld social science disciplines to envision a new reason of existence for e-governments, the paper establishes a vision and a step-wise approach for governments which want to address the requirements posed by the their ‘customers’ - citizens and businesses - and prepare themselves for the unpredictable new world of the digital age.
