This paper develops methods for the analytical estimation of the critical gap and lag acceptance function parameters from existing major stream headway distribution and acceptance data. The analysis distinguishes between the case in which critical gap and critical lag acceptance functions are assumed to be identical and the case in which they are assumed to be different. An application of the results to a limited number of headway acceptance data sets for the opposed right-turn movement (in Great Britain) shows that the latter assumption is close to actual driver behavior and that a model that assigns to each driver a critical lag equal to A times his critical gap can be a reasonable representation of reality.
